About me:
My name is Debra Schwartz and I am founder of Tam Hiking Tours. The natural world is my church and my classroom. The plants, trees, animals, rocks and even the sky above are my guides and teachers. Hiking is my greatest passion. I love how rhythmic walking feels like a calibration with the Earth’s heartbeat and how the perfume of trees, dirt and air feed my soul. I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley, near the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The majestic beauty of Yosemite and the beautiful mountain regions nearby inspired my life long love for the outdoors.
The following are the details of my service:
I offer hikes on Mt Tamalpais and surrounding open spaces. I particularly enjoy constructing experiences for individuals and groups based on their interests and abilities. Imagine the perfect hike and let me help make it happen. Or select from some of my featured tours.
Qualifications:
My love for the outdoors led me on an academic path when, as an adult, I returned to college to expand my understanding of the natural world through the study of geology and other earth sciences. I have a degree in Native American Studies from UC Berkeley. Knowledge of local history and earth science bring to my tours a comprehensive presentation of the land and people and animals of the Bay Area.
I am a wife, mother, teacher, naturalist and board member of the Mill Valley Historical Society. In the past eight years I’ve hiked over 8,000miles on Mt. Tamalpais and feel quite privileged to share the majestic beauty and history of a mountain I am fortunate to call home.
In short, I am committed to making your hiking adventure something to remember long after the trail dust is washed off and hiking shoes tossed back in the closet.
