About me:
I’ve lived and worked in Yosemite for thirty years and I still consider myself a student of its natural history, human heritage, and landscape. I’ve biked, skied and hiked the park in all seasons. I’ve studied the park’s history, wildlife, glaciers, geology, archeology, and forests - and there’s still so much to explore in Yosemite.
Rising at dawn to go birding or to start a big hike, spending a night out in the wilderness, bicycling our big climbs, and being with park visitors - these are the joys of my office.
Over the years it’s been my pleasure to share Yosemite with folks like Laura Bush, Charles Schwab, Tom Stienstra, and George Schultz, and I look forward to getting out there with you.
The following are the details of my service:
Through the park’s nonprofit Yosemite Conservancy, I lead people on day-hikes, birding excursions, and overnight backpack treks. The Conservancy has scheduled field seminars led by park experts and I teach a few of these through the year: backpacking Half Dome, an LNT Trainer course, an overnight geology trek to walk on Lyell Glacier, a class on woodpeckers, backpacking in search of bighorn sheep, our ‘California Naturalist’ course and several more.
We also arrange Custom Adventures wherein we’ll tailor a Yosemite exploration to your interests, any day of the year. This could be an easy half-day saunter, an all-day outing to see the best known landmarks or the places most tourists don’t go, or several days of revealing this grand park. No one can teach you more about Yosemite’s history, natural history, park management, or living-in-Yosemite stories.
Everything I do is in support of our organization’s 90-year mission to protect Yosemite and serve its visitors.
